Comment on A Note About Scott Gomez by HabsWatch

I had hoped Gomez would play well this season, at least well enough to build some value... much like I'm currently hoping Kaberle can do between now and the trade deadline. To make it easier to move them.

Even if you discount the first month of the season for Gomez, he's on pace for 35 pts over 82 games... even worse than last year's 39. Yet he's pumped for being the best 1st assist man in the NHL this year? It's that kind of selective, disingenuous stat harvesting without context that bothers me most about those who use moneyball-style stats as a crutch.

We've reached a point where there's just nothing to defend.

I have to disagree with your opinion of P.K. As a long time Habs fan and a player myself, P.K shows no respect for the game and the unwritten rules that come with it. The cheap shots, the turtling, the in fighting, smiling on the bench when he is benched, etc, etc. Flat out, this kid is a punk. You can compare him to Ray Emery during his time in Ottawa (minus the toughness). He is a classless player on a classy team. He should have been taught respect by earning it through a learning stint in the AHL instead of being brought up and given a spot. His behaviour and sloppy play is nothing new. If you watched him during the World Juniors, you could see it right away.

I Agree fully with the author. The Habs have had bad direction and have given away potentially great players. Subban is a winner and I want to see him in a Habs uniform not an opposing teams. This is a young team, they keep rebuilding and then trading our best players only to have them hit their peaks with other teams. They keep players around with multi million dollar contracts that do nothing for the team. If the Habs get rid of Subban I am going to stop being a Habs fan.

Looking over at tonight's opponent did spur a jealousy factor when looking at the crap that's gone on with P.K. lately. Our organization seems to have the complete opposite philosophy on building a winner and it's frustrating.

Any level-headed Habs fan should agree with this 100%.

It's ironic that you write this on the same night that the team who best exemplifies the approach that the Habs need to take with their team & especially with their young players is in town.

I agree with, so it makes me think his best course of action would have been to say "i cannot attend for personal reasons" and left it at that. As for missing a chance to voice his displeasure to the President, I don't think it was the right time or place.

Thanks for reading, Stefan!

I'd reply simply by saying that we don't know how he feels about issues that aren't related to money: privacy, freedoms, etc. He made it quite clear that it wasn't about Republican vs Democrat (though one wonders if he would have went if a Republican were in power), so I'll take him at his word. The only criticism of Thomas that I find is valid is that he missed a chance to speak personally to the President about how he feels and where he feels the Government is shortchanging the people.

Thomas has every right to protest the state of society in any way he sees fit, I just think for a guy who's paid a lot of money to play a game he shows a real detachment from the real problems of the world. Can he put food on the table? Can he get medical care when he needs it? Where is his actual contribution to promote change? His protest strikes me as someone who’s upset with his own place in the world, not society as a whole.
